Introducing...
In February 2018 CLS Healthcare asked me to redesign the Moonshake Massager; A modular massage wand with four different attachments. I did this project by myself, and was supervised by the owner of the company. The final designs were sent to the manufacturer in China four months after I started the project. After an iteration process of one year the renewed Moonshake Massager and its four attachments is now for sale in The Netherlands.
The process
Kick off
I started with testing and evaluating the current Moonshake Massager myself. The second step was making a moodboard to create a visual impression of the desired end result.
Since other people’s opinions are essential in product design I set up a test panel consisting of six people to test the current Moonshake Massager for me. After testing, guided by written instructions, they filled out a questionnaire. Using the anonymously filled out questionnaires I made an analysis of the current Moonshake Massage.

Ideation
I started the ideation process by sketching out ideas for different parts of the Moonshake Massager: The handle, the head, the buttons, the attachments and anything that would come to mind.

Prototyping
The next step was prototyping different shapes using clay. After having picked the desired shapes based on ergonomics and aesthetic features I modelled the Moonshake Massagers and its four attachments in SolidWorks, to get them 3D printed. After a couple of iterations on the 3D printed parts I made technical drawings of the final models.
I did a color study in which I explored different colors. From very safe options to more out of the box colors. I chose to go with coral pink, together with aubergine purple. Pink is a safe option when it comes to adult toys, so coral is slightly more unique. The contrast with dark aubergine makes the product stand out!

Manufacturing
All findings, drawings and models were then bundled together in a report which I sent to the manufacturer in China. The manufacturer sent us samples which we tested. After a couple iteration rounds the Moonshake Massager is now officially for sale through www.willie.nl, www.pleasurelab.nl and www.bol.com.
